Craig Ford, Whirinaki Forest Dreaming (PLACES WILDERNESS 2023)

Time seemingly stands still while gazing at the roaring waters of the Whirinaki River and the incredible moss-covered rock walls which extend along either side of the impressive Te Whaiti-Nui-a-Toi Canyon. The dense tree canopy above the canyon creates an amazing natural "tunnel" which cuts through the centre of this ancient forest. It really is a true remnant of Gondwanaland and a great example of what forests would have looked like long before humans. Whirinaki Forest Park, Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand.
