Craig Ford, Te Whaiti-Nui-a-Toi Canyon (PLACES WILDERNESS 2023)

Te Whaiti-Nui-a-Toi Canyon, Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand. The Whirinaki Forest Park is one of the last remnants and best remaining examples of lowland podocarp forest left in New Zealand. The area is stunning and is filled with spectacular waterfalls, an amazing array of native vegetation, abundant wildlife, tranquil lagoons, and these incredible moss-covered rock walls which extend along either side of the Te Whaiti-Nui-a-Toi Canyon. This vantage point was not easy to find and required some off-track exploration and careful navigation of the often slippery moss covered walls of the canyon.
