Kathryn Page, Tarn Shelf, Tasmania (PEOPLE WILDERNESS 2022)

Imagine yourself on top of the world, surrounded by Gondwana like times, native fauna, rugged landscapes, lakes, the softness of the fagus leaves against the backdrop, Tasmania’s only native deciduous tree), tiny native flowers hidden in the crevasse of rocks, and the mystical feel of the clouds rolling in over the summit, and you are transported to another time, and a peacefulness washes over you. Once the noise of walking ceases there is nothing but pure silence, and it’s only 45 minutes drive from The City of Hobart. A Grade 3 walk of 15km’s however there is a shorter 3 hour walk also. I was lucky enough to witness a beautiful sunrise over the valleys and lakes. Well worth the round trip.
