Kathryn Goss, Rainforest Floor Ecosystem (NATURE WILDERNESS 2024)

This photo was taken on a chilly summer morning at Otway's Rainforest in Victoria. What caught my eye in this photo was the sunlight peeking through the tall rainforest canopy and hitting the fern below. The fern was intended to be the main focus of this photo; however, the decomposing tree matter complements the shot. I love this photo for its scientific and natural undertones. The high humidity of a rainforest promotes the rapid decomposition of dead matter and supports the recycling of nutrients into the soil. This natural sustainability contributes to the vibrant green color of ferns. The photo beautifully captures the wonders of nature.
