Georgie Puschner, Purple Aoraki (PLACES WILDERNESS 2024)
Most hikers were walking in the opposite direction that evening. But I pushed on in the fading light, eventually reaching the stillness of Hooker Lake. I setup my Canon 6D Mark ii on my tripod, and waited. As the sun descended behind the Southern Alps, Aoraki's snow covered peak became a white beacon lit by the moon in a purple haze. A lone iceberg floated silently towards me, melting slowly in the glacial waters.
