Alexis Chavez, Moon Valley (PLACES WILDERNESS 2024)

This photo was taken in the Atacama Desert, Chile. It shows part of the Salt Mountain Range with its waving layers of red ground bent by multiple earthquakes over thousands of years, leading to the Licancabur volcano in the background. You can see all the different reds and pinks in the landscape without any shade of green as you hike the Moon Valley National Park tracks. This is a different type of beauty, it makes you feel vulnerable and overwhelmed as walk in the driest place on earth.
