Walter Wagner, Lake Phoksumdo, Dolpo region (PLACES WILDERNESS 2023)

View of Lake Phoksumdo, the deepest lake in Nepal, toward the remote region of the Upper Dolpo, located between the Tibetan Plateau and the Dhaulagiri Mountain ranges. The region was closed to outsiders until the 1990’s and retained an authentic Tibetan culture largely unchanged for the last 1200 years. On our trip we followed in the footsteps of Peter Matthiessen who made the region famous in his classic book “The Snow Leopard”.
