Keith Horton, Gymea lily flower-head (April theme: RED)
Doryanthes excelsa, endemic to coastal areas of New South Wales near Sydney in Australia. The flower-head is around 25 by 20 centimetres (10 by 8 in). Normally they point upwards so it's hard to get a photo directly into the flower-head, but this one was at the perfect angle for doing so.
