Steven Mijatovic, Contemplating the river crossing (PEOPLE WILDERNESS)
Historical hiking exposes you to nature in a far more intimate way than modern hiking. Our shoes have thin leather soles so we can feel the ground beneath our feet, our bed is the forest floor, our clothing is made of homespun wool and linen and is dyed with tree barks, mosses and flowers from the very landscape we walk through. It lets you immerse yourself in a time before humans dominated the landscape, when the wilderness was still wild and unknown, there is a connection with it, and with the billions of people who walked the world in antiquity.
