Christopher Theobald, Aurora & Bioluminecence (PLACES WILDERNESS 2024)

"During the day I trekked over the Hazard mountains in Freycinet National Park. When I looked down into the iconic Wineglass Bay I saw a huge amount of floating red algae. I thought to myself "I should come back at night to see if its the bioluminescent algae that lights up a vibrant blue when disturbed" I trekked back up at midnight, as I was walking up, I bumped into a German photographer. I asked him "Are you going up to try and capture the bioluminescence?" He replied; " I'm hoping to capture the Aurora Australis!" We eagerly arrived at the lookout point and low & behold we had both the mysterious southern lights and the algae putting on a show!
