The Standard fee to enter a photo into our Wilderness Photographer of the Year, presented by Mountain Designs is finishing this Sunday!

That means from Monday, 23 Sept the entry fee will go up by $5 to $30 - so do yourself a favour and enter by Sunday and you’ll have saved $5, which you can spend on a coffee whilst contemplating what you could do with any of the prizes you could win.

There are three categories in Wilderness Photographer of the Year: Places, People and Nature.

PLACES: We're looking for your best landscape photos of wilderness areas. Think sweeping panoramas and dramatic horizons, spectacular coastlines and photogenic mountains.

PEOPLE: In this category we want to see photos of people experiencing wilderness areas. If there's one or more people in the frame, this is the category for you.

NATURE: Focus on flora and fauna. Think kangaroos and wallabies, birds, wildflowers and beetles, mushroom, orchids and much more. From the micro to the macro!

Images can be captured in wilderness areas anywhere around the world and the best images, including Winners, Runners-up and the Top 10 in each category will be featured in Great Walks magazine (February-March 2025), and on this website.

Remember images must have been captured on or after 1 January 2022.

Winners and Runners-up in this year's competition will share in a prize pool of more than $19,500 including $5,000 cash and $14,500 in prizes from our sponsors Mountain Designs, Life's an Adventure, GME and Inspiration Outdoors.

Prizes on offer from our amazing sponsors include three Mountain Designs Adventure Packs valued at $1,000 each, a 3-day Life's an Adventure luxury pack-free guided walk (valued at $4000), three GME personal locator beacons valued at $410 each, an 8-day guided tour of Western Australia's iconic Cape to Cape Track with Inspiration Outdoors (valued at $6080), and six one-year subscriptions to Great Walks.
