Tourism Central Australia's latest campaign, “Get Out There in the Red Centre”, is designed to show you a part of Australia you shouldn't miss and how to uncover the hidden gems you never knew could be found in the region.

The Red Centre is a bit ‘out there’ but in a good way. In a more interesting way. When you get to the Red Centre, you’ll feel like you’ve arrived on a different planet. A place where you will find the desert bursting to life.
For bushwalkers there's an array of short and leisurely trails, to the more strenuous traversing the breathtaking country of Central Australia.
The MacDonnell Ranges is host to an array of walks that amble across the geological history of the Red Centre and reveal a variety of fauna and flora, including a number of relict plants from the region’s tropical past.
You can learn about the local Arrernte Aboriginal culture and see the stunning scenery, gorges, chasms and waterholes. Most visitors explore the West MacDonnell Ranges but hikers must visit the “East Macs” too – see our guide to the area's best walks here.

If you are a more experienced bushwalker, you might want to tackle the Larapinta Trail. Divided into 12 sections, extending over 223km across the ridgelines and plateaus of the West MacDonnell Ranges, the Trail has been voted by National Geographic as one of the top 20 trekking experiences to be had on the planet.
