This story might be blowing in the wind but apparently going for a ‘fart walk’ is really good for you (although maybe not for the person behind you).

A fart walk or a ‘post-prandial stroll’, (prandial meaning dinner or lunch) is all about your gut.

The purpose of a fart walk, according to experts, is to start the digestive process and relieve bloating, troublesome gas or the sensation of a big meal sitting in your stomach.

One fan of fart walking claims that a 10-20-minute stroll, helps you “age wonderfully”.

Mairlyn Smith, a Canadian actress and cook, recently revealed on TikTok that she and her husband go for a walk after dinner to release their pent up gases.

So what’s it all about? Well, when you eat a full meal and start to feel that bloat, it’s your stomach at capacity.

That’s when your digestive system takes over, churning your food around and this is controlled by the autonomic nervous system.

This system controls your heart rate and blood pressure, but also your digest responses. So, it controls how you digest and absorb nutrients and also release excess waste and gases.

This is when the, and here’s another big word, 'parasympathetic nervous system' mobilises your gut, causing it to release digestive juices, which use enzymes to break down your food, so it’s easier to absorb.

Ok, then what?

When you need to fart, it’s because your digestive system has been breaking down high-fibre foods and indigestible carbohydrates which remain in the gut where it basically ferments (I know right...).

Medical News Today thinks that walking, stretching, and moving around may help the gas pass through the digestive system.

Happy fart walking!
