The plans for a new Victorian walk - the Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail - have been recognised in the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) awards.

The jury honoured four projects with Regional Achievement Awards, out of a total of 23 entries in the category.

Jury Chair Naomi Barun says this year’s winners highlight the value of design and the economic impact of landscape architecture projects and practices on the regions.

“The voice of the landscape architect was strong in so many regional projects this year. This reflects the investment into built and natural environments in our regions and importantly, is an acknowledgment of the value of landscape architecture in delivering change physically, but also socially and economically,” Naomi said in a press release.

“The winning landscape architects displayed a clear sensitivity and place-based approach to these projects that will enhance regional tourism.”

The jury says “The Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail Master Plan by (designers) Tract is recognised for its considered engagement in both its place and those connected to it."
