Sydney has unveiled a new 3km trail that connects Middle Head – Gubbuh Gubbuh and Georges Head within the Sydney Harbour National Park.
This trail is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, offering an in-depth look at Sydney’s defense history over the past 220 years. Along the route, visitors will find restored military structures dating from 1801 to the Vietnam War, along with informative signage and digital animations that provide context and highlight the historical importance of these sites.
As visitors explore the trail, they’ll also enjoy stunning ocean views, with Sydney's clear waters and beaches providing a scenic backdrop. The trail passes through Gubbuh Gubbuh, one of the seven headlands of Sydney Harbour, known for its cultural and historical significance.
Developed over six years, the $9.5 million project links several headlands, including connections to Chowder Bay and the Bondi to Manly Walk, allowing visitors to experience a variety of coastal landscapes.
Key highlights along the trail include WWII-era 6-pounder gun casemates, defensive fortifications, and the well-preserved 19th-century NSW School of Artillery buildings in North Head. This new trail offers both a chance to connect with nature and delve into Sydney's fascinating military history.
