Work has nearly been completed on the relocation of the southern terminus for two of WA’s great long trails, the Bibbulmun Track and the Munda Biddi cycle trail.

Over the last week, Parks and Wildlife staff were out braving the weather in Albany to realign both the Bibbulmun Track and the Munda Biddi Trail.

They have removed the old Waugals and trail markers and fixed trail markers along a new path into Albany to finish at the southern terminus on York St, outside the Visitor Centre, right in the middle of the CBD.

While not quite finished, the new southern terminus definitely looks and feels like a more significant place to finish – or start – a walk on the Bibbulmun or cycle on the Munda Biddi.

There is new decking, bike racks and bench seats outside the visitor centre where trail users can obtain information about meals, accommodation, transport and use washing amenities.

The City of Albany and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) see this relocation as an opportunity for local businesses and the community.

All visiting backpackers and adventure cyclists will be contributing in some way to the local economy. It might also entice a few of the locals to take the journey themselves.
