The Great Walks Feb-Mar issue is out now and the theme is 'Back to Nature'.

Now that our state and international borders have fully reopened and COVID travel rules have been generally removed it's time to get Back to Nature!

And in this issue we show you some of the finest parts of the country to do just this.

Our first feature is all about a brand new walk in WA, the 5-day Wiilman Bilya Trail just near Collie.

Parks WA has been working incredibly hard on this new walk and our writer was really impressed with the new tracks, huts and infrastructure.

"The trail descends steeply to a point where we cross the Collie River, " writes Jane Pelusey. "Instead of wading and swimming across as I might have done 38 years ago, we walk high and dry along the beautifully constructed Kaniyang Wiilman Bridge.

"From the middle of the 94m-long pedestrian bridge, we admire the Collie River flowing down the forested valley. As there is a close by parking spot, you could arrange a pickup to shorten the hike.

"There’s a big smile of relief as we reach Kooboolong Camp where we set up our tent, ending a hilly 18km hike. We are immediately struck by its spectacular location. Situated on the arm of the massive Wellington Dam reservoir, we absorb the stark beauty of drowned tree skeletons reflecting perfectly in placid waters."

We then head to Victoria’s Mount Baw Baw region for some High Country hiking before heading to the NSW Blue Mountains and the Flinders Ranges in SA.

Overseas we explore the gorgeous Banks Track in NZ’s South Island and then take on Scotland's toughest walk, the Great Wrath Trail.

In our Walksmart section we tell two bush survival stories where one person had a PLB and the other didn't. I'm sure you can tell which one got found first!

We also announce the winners, runners-up and top 10s from Great Walks' Wilderness Photographer of the Year, presented by Southern Ocean Walk. The images are stunning.

Also, we review the best day packs on the market and showcase some of the finest gear for multi-day hikes.
