The Great Walks Feb-Mar issue is out now!
You’ll find out the winners and runners-up of our Wilderness Photographer of the Year in this issue plus we feature the top ten finalists in each category – Place, People and Nature.
Thanks to everyone who entered the comp and a special shout-out to our amazing sponsors Mountain Designs, Life's An Adventure, GME and Inspiration Outdoors.
As for travel yarns, we start off with the iconic Overland Track where our writer has done the walk a number of times over the years.
“I realised that no matter how many times you’ve walked the Overland – and many Tassie locals have walked the route scores of times – there was always something new,” writes Warwick Sprawson.
“In the space of 20 minutes thick dark clouds had replaced a blue sky and the temperature plummeted 15°C. The mountain bluebell flowers that were open in the sunshine closed with the cloud. This is a walk that changes hour-by-hour, day-by-day and season-by-season.”
Staying in Tassie, we head to Maria Island (By the way it’s pronounced ‘Ma-ri-ah’ as in Maria Carey).
We also explore Victoria’s Great Ocean Walk. This is one of the stories in an upcoming coffee table book we have been working on. More details to come….
We then head to NT’s Jatbula Trail where one couple walked it for their honeymoon. We also showcase Qld’s best overnight loops walks including a couple of good ones in Lamington NP.
Overseas we walk a couple of Caminos, one in Portugal and the other in Japan. Both amazing walking experiences!
In our gear section we review some of the best insulated jackets on the market and one Bibbulmun Track walker shows us the contents of her pack.
