The Dec-Jan issue of Great Walks is out now and the theme for the mag is “22 walks to do in ‘22”.
And that’s what you’ll find inside the mag. Twenty-two magnificent walks covering the country and a couple overseas.
Local walks include Tassie’s Cradle Mountain - Lake St Claire NP where our writer retraced the steps of outdoors pioneer Florence Perrin, one of the first women to explore this part of the world.
“She was almost certainly the first woman in northern Tasmania to take up snow skiing being a founding member of the Northern Tasmanian Alpine Club, which was no mean feat in those days since there were no chairlifts; lots of walking was required to reach skiable areas,” writes David Caudwell.
“Florence’s passion for the bush steered her to be the editor of The Tasmanian Countrywoman for many years. Today I’ll channel my inner Tasmanian countryman. I’m armed with a map and compass, buoyed by dawn curiosity and a pastel sky. This feels like a day for adventure.”
Other walks include WA’s Kimberley region, SA’s Fleurieu Peninsula and Qld’s Girraween NP.
We also review dry bags and showcase the latest PLB on the market.
