The Great Walks Aug-Sept issue is out now!

The theme is ‘Points, Peaks and Passes’ and we explore walks that’ll get your heart rate up!

First in line is Tasmania’s Western Arthurs where writer Darren Edwards knew what he was in for.

“The unforgiving rain lashed against our backs as we embarked on a six-day pilgrimage into the heart of the wild, untamed Western Arthurs,” Darren writes.

“This wasn't a leisurely stroll; it was a baptism by fire. Towering quartzite peaks, their shoulders glistening in the fleeting sunlight, promised a challenge unlike any other. Lush carpets of emerald moss stretched hopefully toward the horizon, a stark contrast to the rugged beauty that awaited.”

Next up, we explore SA’s Flinders Ranges, firstly on The Arkaba Walk before showcasing some of the best day walks in the area, including the hike up and around Wilpena Pound.

We then head to Japan to follow in the footsteps on ancient Sumari on the Kumano Kodo.

This issue is also our NZ special and we count down the country’s 10 (soon to be 11), Great Walks, including the Milford and Routeburn tracks.

In our Walksmart section we review 4-season tents, talk about the benefits of volunteering and take your through a multi-day navigation course.

And finally, we offer more tips for our Wilderness Photographer of the Year, presented by Mountain Designs.

And there’s still plenty of time to upload your best photo and be in the running for almost $20k worth of prizes.

The Aug-Sept issue is out soon.
