The Great Walks April-May issueis back from the printers and on its way to newsagents and subscribers!

The theme of the issue is 'Ultimate Escapes' and we have some truly inspiring hiking yarns.

We start off with one woman's story of a 12-day solo trip on the Eastern Goldfields Loop, just outside of Perth where she needed plenty of planning and pluck.

"I need to be totally self-sufficient on my solo trek, so I opt to use ‘Wheelie’, a contemporary lightweight and robust walking trailer which is initially loaded with 37kg of gear, food and water," writes Iva Stejskal.

"I begin my trek in mid-August on the shore of Lake Deborah East, an inland salt lake, and end at the single-bench train station of Koolyanobbing. I am in for clear, mild days but potentially cold nights and hopefully only a spot of rain."

Next up we head to Victoria's iconic Wilsons Prom, then cross the Tasman Sea to walk the Three Capes Track, which is proving very popular.

Staying in Tassie we showcase 10 of the best days walks you can do on the Apple Isle, including walks in the Tarkine and on Maria Island.

As 2021 is the Holy Year of the Camino we dedicate 21 pages looking at the world best pilgrim walks including the world famous Camino de Santiago.

Our WalkSmart section includes a three-part bush survival feature where speak to a couple of bushwalkers who broke limbs on the track and they tell us how they handed it. Spoiler: They both got our ok!

And finally, we review a dozen of the best hiking boots and trail shoes on the market.

The April-May issue will head to subscribers and newsagents in mid-March. Not a subsciber? Click here and look for the blue Sign-Up buttom at the bottom of the page.
