On Saturday, April 29 the Byron Coast Charity Walk celebrated its 10th anniversary event in support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

This milestone event attracted over 850 participants on the day. The walk has become a standout of the local community calendar and drew tourists from across NSW and Queensland.

Participants walked in a group or individually along the stunning Byron Bay coastline in either the 12km Byron to Broken Head Reserve, 24km Byron to Lennox Head SLSC or the full 36km Byron to Ballina SLSC. Most opted to do the full 36km.

Staggered start times for the walk commenced from Dening Park, Byron Bay next to Main Beach with a glorious sunrise from 6.30am for the 36km walkers then 7.30am for the 24km walkers through to 8.30am for the 12km walkers.

The weather was ideal, a maximum of 24 degrees with cloud and sun and mild winds.

All money raised above the registration fee directly supports the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service in the Northern Rivers.

Fundraising is still open until Friday May 12, currently fundraising for the event is at a very impressive $120, 503. The Communities of the Northern NSW have shown their generosity of spirit and support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter for 40 years.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was established in 1975 and through community support and fundraising it has become a critical service that operates four AW139 helicopters from three bases in Lismore, Tamworth and Belmont.

They have completed 441 missions from their Lismore Base in 2022. An impressive feat made possible by your generous donations.

Every dollar raised from the 2023 Byron Coastal Charity Walk directly funds our missions for the next 12 months.
