For trail runners chasing a challenge that goes beyond endurance, the Yasur Volcano Run International Event is set to return on the 11th of October 2025, taking participants through the untamed beauty of Tanna Island, Vanuatu—home to one of the world’s most active volcanoes.

First held in 2021 during Vanuatu’s border closures, the Yasur Volcano Run has grown into a race unlike any other, where athletes don’t just conquer the terrain—they become part of the land and the people who call it home.

Entirely community-powered, the event is organised by local runners, chiefs, and villagers, ensuring the race is deeply rooted in Tannese culture and tradition.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Yasur, known for its near-constant eruptions, the race carves through black volcanic ash plains, dense jungle trails, and steep ridgelines, pushing runners to their physical and mental limits. Unlike conventional trail races, this course is alive; shaped daily by the Earth’s raw energy.

More than just a race, the Yasur Volcano Run is a chance to step into another world. Tanna Island is a place where time slows down—where ancient traditions, unspoiled landscapes, and one of the most breathtakingly active volcanoes on Earth create a setting unlike anywhere else.

From volcanic night hikes to traditional kastom dances, crystal-clear blue holes, and untouched beaches, Tanna offers plenty to explore beyond race day—making it the perfect adventure for runners who want more than just a finish line.
